Limestone crushing is the first step for cement production line. Limestone crushing process should be designed according to the physical properties and input size of limestone material, the maximum feeding size and processing capacities of crushing machines, and the selected limestone processing equipments.
Limestone crushing processes are generally classified into two types—single crushing process and multiple crushing process. At present, most cement plants in China apply single cement crushing process which requires less investment, and can process limestone of large size. As for large-scale cement crushing plant, multiple crushing process is required.
In the case of 1000 000 ton/year in capacity, the limestone crushing plant should contain three crushing processes and one screening process. The mined limestone ore is transported from quarry to vibrating feeder. The limestone material which is more above 120 mm in size is passed to jaw crusher for primary crushing. The limestone material less than 120 mm in size enters directly into primary vibrating screen for separation. The particles less than 50 mm move to the secondary screening, the ones between 50 -120 mm pass to open-pit stockpile, and the ones more than 120 mm are convoyed by belt conveyor to secondary crushers ( two jaw crushers or cone crusher ore impact crusher) for further crushing. The crushed product is conveyed to secondary vibrating screen. The limestone particles of 0-25mm, 25-50mm, and 50-120mm in size are conveyed to open-pit stockpile, while the ones larger than 120mm pass to hammer mill forming a closed-circuit process. Particles of three sizes are piled into three stockpiles, and then they can me carried to the next process of cement production process.
